Culpepper Land and Farming History

History of Our Name

Once an operational row crop and cattle farm, Culpepper Farms has now transformed into Oyster Ridge. My family began purchasing the land in the 1950’s and we now have over 1,500 acres. As the row crops have gradually faded away, pine trees have been planted in their place. Today we are a certified tree farm with approximately 1,300 acres of loblolly and long leaf pines ranging from 1 to 25 years old.

Seated in the heart of the Black Belt, we are blessed with an abundance of wildlife. The name “Oyster Ridge” comes from the fossilized oyster shells that can be found on the property. We are located in Pleasant Hill, Alabama which is about 18 miles South of Selma, Alabama and 48 miles West of Montgomery, Alabama.

Hunting at Oyster Ridge has been a tradition shared by families for years. Every year we improve our habitat to accommodate all of the wildlife. At Oyster Ridge, we provide an opportunity for deer, dove, duck, turkey and quail hunting. Fishing is also available on our three ponds, all stocked with bass and bream, with our largest pond spanning over 10 acres. Dry Cedar Creek borders our property and makes a great fishing spot as well.

Oyster Ridge is not just limited to hunting and fishing; we are also a recreation destination. We offer everything from horseback riding to four-wheeler riding. We are happy to accommodate youth retreats and business trips or anyone who wants to escape and come and experience the great outdoors.

We have two cabins available. Our main cabin was built in 1999 and all of the interior wood is from the pine trees and cedar trees harvested here on our farm. This cabin will accommodate 5 people comfortably and includes a fully functional kitchen, bath, dinning area and sitting room.  Relax and enjoy the breathtaking views by spending time on our deck, complete with a swing and fire pit. Another feature is our outdoor barbecue pit and covered shed with skinning rack. The second cabin is currently being remodeled and will be available mid 2009. This cabin will accommodate 4 – 6 people with kitchen, bath and eating area.

Come experience all the great outdoors has to offer. Join us and make Oyster Ridge your hunting and outdoor destination.
